Abandoned abalone farm in Anxious Bay is expected to be cleaned up

An abandoned abalone farm in Anxious Bay is expected to be cleaned up by the end of the year.

State MLC Kelly Vincent says concerned Elliston residents contacted her last month about debris washing up on beaches from the Ocean Abalone Australia Farm; it went into receivership in March.

Ms Vincent raised the issue in Parliament and says the Environment Department and Primary Industries and Regions South Australia are paying for the clean-up.
MLC Kelly Vincent says she’ll look into why the Government is paying to clean up the mess left by a private company:

“They’re expecting the clean up to be finished by the end of the year however as I said that could depend on weather conditions and transport availability as well but as I said the debris that hasn’t been removed already has been secured so that it can’t float away.”

“This instance would indicate that there is a need to look at the broader issues around that and I’m very happy to do that, however my concern at the moment is to make sure that this rubbish does get cleaned up so that the community of Ellison and the environment no longer continues to suffer.”
