ABC News 17/01/2014 [Taxi driver found guilty] (19.14)

An Adelaide taxi driver has been found guilty of covering the cameras in his cab and indecently assaulting a disabled passenger. 54 year old Cheng Cao claimed he’d put post-it notes over two cameras in his taxi because his passenger had dribbled on him and he planned to slap her. He said he put his hand down the woman’s top to clean her up. The 24 year old victim uses a wheelchair and can’t talk and the crime was only detected because one of the post-its fell off.

Unidentified male: “From the justice system here today they recognise that people with disabilities do have a voice and they do have rights.”

Vincent: “This is a rare victory. There are still many cases of this kind of abuse happening in our community that don’t even make it to court.”

Sentencing submissions will be made next month
