Hi Pauline,
I am sorry to hear about the issues you have experienced with taxis recently. Unfortunately there is not much that can be done when there are traffic jams. The Government have attempted to improve this in the CBD by allowing taxis to use the designated bus lanes, however during peak hour there will always be delays.
If you find that a taxi driver is not doing the right thing it is always best to make sure you report their behaviour. All taxis have a GPS so the routes they are taking can also be tracked. To make a complaint you can contact the Department of Transport, Public Services Division on 1300 311 108 or there is more information here: http://www.taxicouncilsa.com.au/contact.php
I hope this information is useful to you.
Kind regards,

Why can taxi drivers leave the meters running when there are severe traffic jams, road accidents etc, & deliberately ignore clients & take the longest route possible? Ex I caught an access cab from central market to the Showgrounds,, the meter read $33.40, the roads were not busy & we stopped at 1 set of traffic lights.? The driver ignored my request to go onto west Tce then Goodwood Rd, instead he went back toward king William st, Currie st West Tce Anzac Hwsy, Leader St then Goodwood Rd, I have also noticed that most taxis are already displaying an almost $5 starting fare? They take physio calls meaning the fare is $10 before we even leave?
