Call for whoever wins the election to commit to funding more sign language interpreters

ABC Radio Adelaide

Dignity Party politician Kelly Vincent is urging whoever wins the State election to commit to funding more sign language interpreters. Ms Vincent has welcomed a promise by the Labor Party to spend $6 million over five years on disability sector training for Year 10 students if re-elected, but she says more money is desperately needed for disability worker traineeships including Auslan interpreters:

“We know that the numbers of qualified interpreters in this country are dwindling, there are not enough for a fully rolled out NDIS and there are also not enough given that people will have more and more issues with their hearing as they age.”
