A fresh start for SA with d4d – Scott Whelan in Little Para
29/01/2014
Scott Whelan, 41, of Elizabeth Grove, is motivated to contribute his experience to highlight issues of social justice, equity and accessibility wherever they arise in the community, whether it affects people living with a disability or not.
Scott wants to make a difference, and encourage others with a lived experience of disability to be tenacious, resilient and confident.
“Through my involvement with Dignity for Disability I want to be a role model for people to achieve their goals in life, I have been a teacher for 14 years, and a community radio broadcaster, I’m not saying it’s easy, but I am saying have a go,” says Scott Whelan.
Because living with a disability doesn’t come with a user manual, Scott wants to see a big shift in public perception about abilities.
“We’re all people first, and by removing the barriers that exist in people’s hearts and minds d4d and I believe we can create a fairer, more just society.”
Scott wants to bring attention to issues of social justice, equity and accessibility as somebody who faces these issues daily and has for a lifetime.
He wants to make a difference and encourage others who live with such circumstances to be tenacious, resilient and confident and those that don’t to embrace the diversity present within our community/society.
