A fresh start for SA with d4d – Amy Park in Heysen

29/01/2014

Amy Park, 19, of Crafers, has proven her ability to work hard in the face of challenges and to achieve her best at whatever she turns her hand to.  She is passionate about ensuring local communities present a better, more acceptable and more accessible place for people living with disabilities.

“It’s about human rights, and removing barriers wherever they exist to allow everyone to have the same level of participation in our society.”

Amy has worked with Kids Teaching Kids on environmental education programs, and sees the potential of the model in increasing understanding of disability issues.  As an advocate Amy wants a fair go for people with a disability.

“As a candidate, I want to win the hearts and minds of those people of Heysen who believe in the power of the fresh approach of youth to overcome the cynicism that so easily besets our culture,”says Amy Park.

“Because as long as there is injustice in our community, we are failing those who need us most.

As an experienced athlete and coach (rowing), Amy knows that dedication, perseverance and determination pay off.

“I will not stand by and see families struggle to afford continence pads for their disabled teen, or parents denied respite care when they desperately need it.  I stand for an inclusive SA,” said Ms Park.
